Speech sounds

Understanding language

Sounds like: only doing the last part of “get your hat and put it in your bag”.
Using words
Using words and sentences to share thoughts, needs and ideas.
Sounds like: pointing instead of asking, or stories that get tangled.
Social communication
Turn-taking, joining in, conversation and talking through emotions.
Sounds like: loving friends but finding it hard to play together.
Literacy
Phonological awareness, reading and writing, using Sounds-Write.
Sounds like: guessing words from pictures, or spelling that doesn’t match the sounds.
Fluency
Smoother speech and reducing the impact of stuttering.
Sounds like: “b-b-b-ball”, stretching words, or getting stuck.
AAC (augmentative & alternative communication)
Key word signing, picture boards and speech devices, for kids who need another way to be heard.
